Agartala, Dec 7 (NationPress) - The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Sunday that the state government is committed to enhancing infrastructure to support the establishment of a golf course in the region.
While inaugurating the Bharat Golf Mahotsav, a collaborative event by the Golf Federation of India and the Border Security Force (BSF), CM Saha emphasized that the development of a golf course would significantly enhance eco-tourism in Tripura.
Additionally, he pointed out that this initiative would create job opportunities for the youth and contribute to the goal of a 'Nasha Mukt' Tripura.
In a follow-up post on his X handle, the Chief Minister noted that the Tripura Open Golf Tournament at Shalbagan, part of the Bharat Golf Mahotsav GFI Tour 2025, is a commendable partnership between the Tripura Golf Association and the TUSKER BSF Golf Club.
“Hosting such an exceptional tournament in Tripura not only enriches our sporting culture but also motivates the youth to embrace the grace, discipline, and competitive spirit of golf, thereby increasing the sport's popularity statewide,” CM Saha stated.
The GFI 2025 tour and the Tripura open tournament are taking place at the premises of the BSF Golf Course at Salbagan, close to Agartala.
Inspector General of BSF, Tripura frontier, Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, mentioned that the state's natural landscape is perfectly suited for golf.
He highlighted that the introduction of golf courses in various cities has seen a significant increase in real estate prices.
As a luxury tourism activity, golf has great potential to enhance the hospitality sector, improve transportation services, and uplift the vibrant local handicraft industry, Chakraborty added.
The Chief Minister, along with BSF's Tripura frontier IG and state Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs Tinku Roy, toured the expansive golf course.
According to Aryavir Arya, General Secretary of the Golf Federation of India, the Bharat Golf Mahotsav GFI tour 2025 started on September 17, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, and will conclude on January 12, in honor of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary.
The Bharat Golf Mahotsav is a nationwide initiative by the GFI aimed at uniting India through golf, sustainability, education, and social causes, engaging 100 cities with activities such as tournaments, tree planting, marathons, and promoting 'Make in India' and 'Viksit Bharat'.
