Agartala, July 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, highlighted on Wednesday that the statistics indicate that the casualties and injuries resulting from road accidents in the state are significantly below the national average. He stressed the importance of further reducing these figures.
While inaugurating 16 basic life support ambulances and virtually launching the VLT (Vehicle Location Tracking) and MT (Monitoring System), the Chief Minister called for concerted efforts to prevent accidents caused by negligence.
He noted that both the Central and state governments are collaborating effectively to mitigate road accidents and urged citizens to remain vigilant in this regard.
“In comparison to the national statistics, Tripura has a lower fatality rate in road accidents. The Traffic and Transport Department must closely monitor the validity of drivers' licenses. For enhanced safety, it should be compulsory for both drivers and passengers on two-wheelers to wear helmets,” stated Saha.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the state’s Transport Department has initiated several innovative measures aimed at improving road safety.
Previously, the Transport Department introduced interceptor vehicles. Among the 16 ambulances inaugurated by the Chief Minister, eight will be operated by the Fire and Emergency Service Department, while the other eight will be overseen by various police stations.
These ambulances will be stationed in areas prone to accidents along national highways. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the need to reduce road accidents nationwide, and under his guidance, the state government is taking action to prevent such incidents, as noted by Saha, who also serves as the Home portfolio holder.
The Chief Minister mentioned that individuals who transport injured accident victims to hospitals will receive a reward of Rs 25,000 along with a certificate.
The Tripura government is strictly adhering to the Central directives prohibiting the establishment of liquor shops within a 100-meter radius of national highways, and the Chief Minister also announced the decision to phase out government vehicles older than 15 years.
