Puducherry, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has adjusted its campaign strategy in Puducherry following the Union Territory's refusal to permit party leader Vijay's planned roadshow on December 5. In light of this, the party has submitted a request to hold a public gathering on December 9 at the Uppalam Port Grounds, indicating a rapid shift in their approach. TVK had initiated its campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections nearly two months ago, aiming to generate traction across various districts and strengthen its support base.

Nevertheless, the party's outreach faced a temporary hurdle after a recent incident in Karur, which led Vijay to halt his statewide tour and suspend all major public gatherings.

After a month-long hiatus, he resumed public engagements by visiting residents in their homes in Kancheepuram, marking a careful re-entry into his campaign activities and a more measured approach to crowd interactions and security. With momentum building again, the party sought authorization for a significant roadshow in Puducherry on December 5.

TVK General Secretary Bussy Anand personally traveled to the Union Territory, conversing with senior police officials and even meeting the Chief Minister in an attempt to gain approval for the high-profile event. However, despite multiple discussions, the Puducherry Police denied permission for the roadshow, citing undisclosed reasons.

Afterward, Anand refrained from addressing media inquiries, leaving party members and supporters speculating about the reasons behind the denial and whether political factors played a role.

Undeterred, TVK quickly revised its strategy. The party has now opted for a large public meeting on December 9 at the Uppalam Port Grounds, replacing the canceled roadshow with a format that may be easier for the administration to manage. A formal request for the gathering has been submitted to Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Kalaivanan, as confirmed by party insiders.

Anticipating a significant turnout, the party recognizes Puducherry's strategic political importance, given that Vijay's previous events in the area attracted large crowds and enthusiastic local support.

As the election season approaches, political analysts observe that the decision to deny the roadshow—paired with the party's quick pivot to a public meeting—highlights the increasingly delicate and competitive nature of the pre-election landscape in the region.

TVK leaders are confident that the Puducherry rally will act as a vital platform for Vijay to reaffirm his political presence after the brief pause in his campaign, reinforcing that the party is steadfastly on track for the 2026 Assembly elections.
