Patna, Nov 24 (NationPress) Two individuals on a motorcycle have been accused of murdering an elderly man, only to meet their demise at the hands of an enraged mob in a village on the outskirts of Patna on Monday evening.
According to the Patna Superintendent of Police (East), Parichay Kumar, the incident unfolded between 4:30 and 5 p.m. in the village of Dommanchak, under the jurisdiction of Gopalpur police station.
The City SP reported that the two assailants arrived at the home of Asharfi Rai (80) in Dommanchak village and opened fire at him without restraint.
“After executing the attack, the assailants attempted to flee. However, local villagers heard the uproar and pursued them, ultimately managing to apprehend the attackers. They were lynched by the crowd, resulting in their deaths on the spot,” Kumar stated.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been summoned to the scene to gather forensic evidence.
“The FSL team has collected spent cartridges from the initial crime scene. Additionally, bricks, stones, and batons were found at the second location. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas,” Kumar elaborated.
The injured victim, Asharfi Rai, was transported to Patna Medical College and Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Reports suggest this incident may be connected to a Rs 20 crore land dispute.
Authorities are currently working to identify the attackers and ascertain their backgrounds.
The Patna Police are actively investigating the case and are in the process of recording statements from the victim's family to uncover the precise motive behind the murder.
“We have retrieved all three bodies and sent them for post-mortem examinations,” Kumar mentioned.
