Chandigarh, Oct 21 (NationPress) In a significant Intelligence-led operation, the Amritsar Rural Police, working in close collaboration with central agencies, have detained two individuals linked to a terror module and seized a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) along with a launcher, revealed Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Tuesday.
The suspects have been named as Mehakdeep Singh, also known as Mehak, from Wadali in Amritsar, and Aditya, referred to as Adhi, hailing from Bhaga Chhina village in Amritsar.
In addition to the RPG, police have confiscated their motorcycle, which they were using at the time of their arrest.
DGP Yadav stated that initial inquiries have indicated that the apprehended individuals were in communication with an operative of Pakistan's ISI, who had dispatched the consignment across the border via drone, intended for Harpreet Singh, currently incarcerated in Ferozepur Jail.
“The RPG was destined for a specific terror attack,” the DGP noted. He emphasized that ongoing investigations aim to uncover the broader network involved.
In detailing the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural), Maninder Singh, stated that acting on intelligence inputs regarding the retrieval of the RPG-22 Netto anti-tank rocket launcher on the orders of Harpreet, police units apprehended both individuals while they were en route to deliver the package.
Investigations are underway to identify the intended recipients of the consignment, with the SSP adding that police teams plan to bring Harpreet alias Vicky from Ferozepur Jail under a production warrant for additional questioning.
A First Information Report (FIR) No. 331 dated October 21 has been filed under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Gharinda in Amritsar rural.
