Jammu, June 30 (NationPress) The Army announced on Monday that it successfully prevented an infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) by militants in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the neutralization of two intruders.
A spokesperson from the defence ministry confirmed that several terrorists were taken down, while a local guide who assisted in the infiltration was captured, along with a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
“On June 29, vigilant troops noticed suspicious activities in the Keri sector of Rajouri, a known infiltration route, just days before the start of the Amarnath yatra. Acting on precise intelligence, the troops promptly engaged a heavily armed group of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorists,” stated the official.
During the ensuing firefight, the troops inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorist group, with initial reports confirming the neutralization of at least two militants. One local guide, believed to have aided the infiltrators, was apprehended in the operation, as reported by the official.
The subsequent search operation led to the recovery of weapons, explosives, and other military supplies, highlighting the scale of the planned terrorist activities.
“The Army's decisive action thwarted a potential threat to peace and stability in the region, especially amidst rising tensions following recent cross-border incidents. The captured guide is currently being interrogated to reveal more about the infiltration network and its connections to terror groups based in Pakistan,” the official added.
In response, the Army has ramped up surveillance and allocated additional resources to prevent further breaches along the LoC.
“Security forces remain on high alert across the Poonch and Rajouri districts to identify any ongoing threats,” said the Army spokesman.
Following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, the Army, police, and other security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers. A continuous watch is maintained on the LoC and the International Border to ensure that no terrorists trained and sheltered by Pakistan infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir.
