Patna, June 24 (NationPress) In a devastating road incident near the Beda Canal in Bihar's Rohtas district on Tuesday, two individuals tragically lost their lives instantly when a speeding dumper collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw.
The victims were identified as Santosh Kumar (17), the son of forest worker Indradev Singh, and Bhola Paswan (45), a farmer hailing from Morsarai village.
Two additional passengers suffered severe injuries and are presently receiving treatment at Sasaram Sadar Hospital.
As reported by eyewitnesses, the auto-rickshaw was heading towards Sasaram when the dumper, traveling at high speed from the opposite direction, crashed into it around 5 a.m. The force of the impact was so great that the auto was rendered unrecognizable, resulting in the immediate deaths of Santosh and Bhola.
After the shocking incident, the negligent driver fled the scene before local residents could arrive.
In response to the accident, enraged villagers organized a protest, obstructing the old GT Road and demanding compensation for the grieving families and strict punishment for the dumper driver.
This protest caused a traffic jam lasting 2-3 hours, leading to extensive vehicle queues on both sides of the highway.
Senior police officials, including Sadar DSP Dilip Kumar and Town Police Station personnel, quickly arrived at the scene.
The police have sent the deceased for post-mortem examinations and launched an investigation. Authorities were able to calm the protesters and restore traffic.
“The reckless dumper driver has escaped. We are working diligently to apprehend him. A case has been filed for rash and negligent driving at the Town Police Station,” DSP Dilip Kumar confirmed, stating that the situation is now under control.
“We are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and its driver. The guilty driver will be apprehended soon,” the DSP assured.
This incident has reignited concerns regarding reckless driving by heavy vehicles on state highways, sparking calls for enhanced traffic enforcement and monitoring.
