Indore, June 23 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Meghalaya Police, currently active in Indore, has detained two additional suspects in the ongoing investigation of Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder.
An official has identified the suspects as Silome James, a property dealer and tenant of a building in Indore’s Heera Bagh Colony, where Sonam Raghuvanshi stayed after returning from Meghalaya post-murder, and Balla Ahirwar, the building's security guard.
They were apprehended for allegedly assisting the main suspects, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the victim’s wife, and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, in eliminating evidence.
"Both suspects are under a seven-day transit remand by Meghalaya Police for further inquiries. They have been brought to Indore, and the investigation is ongoing," stated Rajesh Dandotia, Additional DCP of Indore, to IANS.
Dandotia refrained from sharing additional details about the ongoing investigation, emphasizing that Indore police are merely aiding Meghalaya Police.
"The SIT will remain in Indore for a few more days as the investigation remains incomplete. So far, seven individuals have been apprehended. The Meghalaya Police arrived in Indore on June 17 and will stay until their investigation is concluded," added Dandotia.
Suspect Silome James was captured at the Bhonrasa toll plaza in Dewas district around 7:30 p.m. on June 21 while attempting to escape to Bhopal. Following his arrest, he was taken to Indore and shown the location where he allegedly incinerated a box belonging to Sonam, which contained various items, including jewelry, a laptop, and a firearm purportedly belonging to Kushwaha.
The security guard, Balla Ahirwar, who had fled to his home village, was also captured in the Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh.
The three alleged contract killers are already incarcerated in Meghalaya. On Saturday, a court in Meghalaya granted judicial custody of Kushwaha and Sonam. Three SIT members have been in Madhya Pradesh since June 17, visiting multiple locations linked to the suspects.
They have also interrogated relatives and acquaintances of the couple as part of their extensive investigation. Sonam and Raghuvanshi married on May 11, departed for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20, and were reported missing on May 23 from Sohra town in East Khasi Hills district.
Raghuvanshi’s decomposed body was discovered in a deep gorge on June 2, while his wife, initially presumed missing, was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur on June 9.
The remaining four suspects were detained across various locations in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
