Bhopal, May 24 (NationPress) A concerning incident has emerged in Jaora town, located in the Ratlam district, where Asim Qureshi, a young Muslim man, reportedly slapped Suraj Mahawar, the local convenor of Hindu Jagran Manch, and issued threats regarding his tilak—a customary Hindu forehead mark.
The police reported that the confrontation occurred at a shop in Mughalpura, where Mahawar is employed.
According to Durgesh Armo, the city superintendent of police, Asim challenged Mahawar about wearing a tilak in what he claimed was a predominantly Muslim area, as per the allegations made by Mahawar.
The dispute intensified, with Asim purportedly slapping and pushing Mahawar while also threatening to shoot him, asserting that he possessed a pistol at home.
A video of the confrontation, which has surfaced, seems to show Asim striking Mahawar, with two women present during the altercation.
As news of the incident circulated, members of various Hindu organizations congregated in large numbers, encircling the Jaora City Police Station and blocking a nearby over-bridge, demanding prompt action against Asim.
Currently, police have calmed the crowd; the situation is stable, and everything is under control. A case has been filed against Asim Qureshi under multiple sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita. The video is under review, and stringent surveillance is being maintained in the vicinity. The accused will soon be brought before the court, according to the police.
The officer also mentioned that Asim Qureshi has refuted the accusations, claiming that the altercation resulted from a prior dispute. Therefore, the police are conducting a thorough investigation.
This unrest led to significant disturbances, necessitating the deployment of police forces from six stations to restore order. Jaora City Police Station in-charge Jitendra Jadoun, along with SDOP Sandeep Malviya and CSP Durgesh Armo, arrived at the scene to de-escalate tensions.
Authorities are also examining Asim's criminal record, particularly since he had been released on bail just eight days prior concerning a murder case.
Local Hindu groups are demanding severe action against Asim under the National Security Act and the demolition of his residence.
