Lucknow, June 21 (NationPress) The government of Uttar Pradesh has taken a remarkable step to honor International Yoga Day by organizing unique sessions in old age homes, attracting thousands of elderly residents and students alike.
This initiative, led by the Department of Social Welfare, facilitated special yoga practices across all old age homes and Jayaprakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalayas in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, the event witnessed vibrant participation from elderly residents, students, and teachers, coming together for a collective yoga practice.
This initiative represents a pivotal advancement in empowering underprivileged sections of society by enhancing their health and mindfulness. More than 6,500 elderly residents engaged in yoga under professional guidance.
Students from Sarvodaya Vidyalayas joined in group yoga sessions with their educators, committing to embrace healthier lifestyles.
The Social Welfare Department manages old age homes with a capacity of 150 individuals in each district.
In Varanasi, yoga expert Vinod Kumar Patel from BHU led the session, discussing the health advantages of consistent yoga practice. In Mahoba, instructor Prem Narayan Swarnkar conducted a special session at the Aadharshila Old Age Home.
In Bahraich’s Aminpur Nagaraur old age home, instructors Ajay Kumar Chaudhary, Dr. Ram Gopal, and others demonstrated simple asanas to the elderly residents. District officials were present to motivate the elderly to incorporate yoga into their daily routines for improved health.
At JP Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalayas, students and staff celebrated Yoga Day with enthusiasm.
In Hetimpur (Chakia, Chandauli), teachers, staff, and students performed yoga together, practicing asanas like Pranayama, Surya Namaskar, Vajrasana, and Tadasana.
Krishna Prasad, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, emphasized that Yoga Day is an essential step toward enhancing students' confidence, discipline, and health.
Currently, 100 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas are operational, providing residential facilities, quality education, and free coaching for competitive exams like JEE and NEET.
“The state government is dedicated to mainstreaming yoga and incorporating it into daily life through grassroots-level implementation by the Social Welfare Department,” stated a press release.
