Hyderabad, March 15 (NationPress) Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu extended his congratulations to the distinguished surgeon Dr. P. Raghu Ram for setting a Guinness World Record for the highest views of a breast cancer awareness lesson on YouTube within a 24-hour period.
“Heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Raghu Ram, a celebrated surgeon and Padma Shri awardee, for this remarkable achievement recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. He has empowered over 11,000 individuals in just 24 hours on the significant occasion of the 50th anniversary of International Women’s Day, both at a live event hosted by the Brahma Kumaris and online via YouTube,” Venkaiah Naidu shared on X.
He had previously attended a ceremony where the Guinness World Records certificate was presented to Dr. Raghu Ram.
This marks the second Guinness World Record for the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation and KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases in collaboration with the Brahma Kumaris.
The recent achievement involved the onsite ‘Largest Breast Cancer Awareness Lesson’, where an impressive 5,020 individuals were enlightened about various aspects of breast cancer in an easily understandable format.
“This accomplishment shines as a significant achievement for the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation and KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases at KIMS Hospitals, as well as for the Brahma Kumaris. With approximately 200,000 new cases diagnosed annually and 100,000 deaths each year, it’s alarming that one in two women diagnosed with breast cancer in India succumbs to this grave illness,” Venkaiah Naidu remarked.
“Dr. Raghu Ram has been a relentless advocate for breast cancer awareness in the Telugu States for many years. He has spearheaded numerous innovative initiatives promoting the importance of early detection of breast cancer. His large-scale population-based screening program has reached 4,000 villages across both Telugu states, facilitating early detection and saving countless lives in the region,” the former Vice President noted.
In a heartfelt gesture, Dr. Raghu Ram dedicated this recognition to his mother, Dr. Ushalakshmi, a breast cancer survivor who passed away five months ago. “She was my primary source of inspiration for this impactful breast cancer advocacy campaign at Brahma Kumaris. Due to widespread ignorance, the absence of a robust screening program, and uneven access to cancer care, over 60% of breast cancers in India present at advanced stages,” he explained.
Dr. B. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman of the KIMS Group of Hospitals, praised Dr. Raghu Ram for achieving yet another milestone in his distinguished career.
K. Padmanabhaiah, Chairman of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), also paid tribute to Dr. Raghu Ram’s mother.
