Mumbai, June 13 (NationPress) In a remarkable development in an international drug trafficking case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in partnership with the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Abu Dhabi and INTERPOL, has successfully facilitated the return of Taher Salim Dola, a significant suspect in a prominent drug trafficking operation, back to India. Dola touched down at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport, Mumbai on Friday aboard flight AI-984 from Dubai as a deportee.

He is a wanted individual by the Mumbai Police in relation to FIR No. 67/2024 filed at Kurla Police Station, for allegedly running a synthetic drug manufacturing facility in Sangli, Maharashtra. Authorities had confiscated 126.141 kg of Mephedrone (MD) — an illicit synthetic drug — valued at approximately INR 2.522 million from the location associated with Dola and his collaborators.

Investigations unveiled that Dola had been managing the illegal operation remotely from abroad. Following this revelation, the CBI initiated a Red Notice through INTERPOL on November 25, 2024, at the request of the Mumbai Police. Dola was later apprehended in the UAE on January 27, 2025, after being geo-tracked by CBI officials in collaboration with INTERPOL's International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU).

In conjunction with India's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), an official extradition request was submitted to UAE authorities. Following legal procedures and diplomatic negotiations, Dola was deported back to India today.

INTERPOL's Red Notices act as global alerts aimed at tracking and capturing fugitives sought for prosecution or serving sentences.

The CBI, serving as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, collaborates with all Law Enforcement Agencies in the country through BHARATPOL for support via INTERPOL channels. In recent years, over 100 wanted fugitives have been successfully returned to India using INTERPOL frameworks coordinated by the CBI.

Dola is now set to be transferred to the Mumbai Police and presented before a competent court. Further inquiries into the extensive drug network associated with his operations are anticipated to escalate in the upcoming days.
