Kolkata, Nov 16 (NationPress) The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has unveiled the names of candidates who have been shortlisted for interviews after taking part in the State Level Selection Test (SLST) conducted in September. The list, highlighting those eligible for teaching roles in Classes 11 and 12, was made public late Saturday night.
As per reports from WBSSC, over 20,000 candidates are invited for interviews, with the verification of documents set to commence on November 18.
Bratya Basu, the State Education Minister, expressed gratitude towards WBSSC for their dedication in adhering to the Supreme Court's directives to expedite the recruitment process. He reassured aspiring candidates who were not selected for interviews to remain hopeful.
The minister stated, "The West Bengal Central School Service Commission has today issued a preliminary list of candidates eligible for interviews for the teaching positions for Classes XI-XII on its website," in a post on X.
He noted that the entire recruitment process aims to conclude by December.
The document verification for the selected candidates is officially set to begin on November 18, 2025. This is a testament to our commitment to conducting the recruitment process in a transparent and responsible manner, as pledged by our esteemed Chief Minister. Therefore, we urge job seekers to maintain their faith and trust in the process," the education minister added. However, the announcement for the interview list for Classes 9 and 10 will be released at a later date.
The SLST was conducted in September, marking a significant effort to recruit teachers for Classes 9 through 12.
After a gap of nine years, the SLST aimed to fill a total of 35,726 teaching vacancies across Classes 9-10 and 11-12. Out of these, 23,212 positions are allocated for Classes 9 and 10, while 12,514 are designated for Classes 11 and 12.
This new examination comes in light of a teacher recruitment scam that has significantly impacted West Bengal's political landscape over recent years.
The Supreme Court, on April 3, annulled the appointments of approximately 26,000 teachers and non-teaching personnel who were recruited through the 2016 selection process.
The recent examinations were conducted following a Supreme Court mandate, which also prohibited the previous panel’s (2016) ineligible candidates from participating in these new assessments.
