Patna, Oct 8 (NationPress) Following the announcement of the Bihar elections schedule, a disagreement has emerged within the Mahagathbandhan regarding the Chief Ministerial candidate and the seat-sharing framework. However, the ruling BJP and JD-U have brushed aside these concerns, questioning what relevance the opposition alliance holds for them.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh remarked to IANS, "It has been declared that (Chief Minister) Nitish Kumar is the NDA's face, and everything is proceeding as planned. Details on seat-sharing will be disclosed shortly. Yet, just yesterday, the Congress declared Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial nominee for the RJD, not the Mahagathbandhan. Discussions are still underway under Lalu Yadav's guidance, and the Mahagathbandhan has yet to finalize its leadership. In contrast, the NDA has its leadership firmly established with Nitish Kumar confirmed. This announcement encapsulates all dimensions."

Bihar Minister Ashok Choudhary added, "What do we have to do with the Mahagathbandhan? They can arrange their alliances as they see fit. The public has already resolved to grant a strong majority to the NDA government once more. Our focus remains on that."

Meanwhile, the RJD and the Samajwadi Party asserted that "all is well" within the alliance.

They stated that seat-sharing decisions are being finalized, and the official allocation is anticipated to be announced within a day or two.

RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari mentioned, "All is well within the Mahagathbandhan. The seat-sharing decisions are being finalized, and we will officially announce the distribution in a day or two. Every party will receive due respect, and all will have their fair share."

Samajwadi Party leader Virendra Singh remarked, "There is no discord. The Mahagathbandhan stands united and will contest the elections as one. The NDA parties diverge ideologically — whether it's the JD-U or the BJP, their perspectives vary. Our party holds a different stance. Ram Vilas Paswan’s party also differs. They have united solely for power and its advantages, out of self-interest. However, the Mahagathbandhan is ideologically unified — socialist, secular, and dedicated to Bihar’s advancement. This alliance will endure and prioritize Bihar’s interests; there is no discord."

The Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled for two phases on November 6 and 11, with the results set to be revealed on November 14.

Point of View

The dynamics within the Mahagathbandhan are crucial for understanding the political landscape in Bihar. While the NDA's stance is clear, the opposition must navigate its internal disagreements effectively to present a united front to the electorate. It's imperative for the Mahagathbandhan to resolve these issues to challenge the NDA's established leadership effectively.
