Patna, Jan 19 (NationPress) Following the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant in a women's hostel in Patna, Surendra Yadav, the RJD Lok Sabha MP from Jehanabad, has vehemently criticized the Bihar government for its handling of the investigation.
In a press conference held in Jehanabad, Yadav challenged the state government's claims of enhanced law and order.
“Nitish Kumar and other leaders of the NDA often assert that prior to 2005, individuals in Bihar were afraid to go out after dark. Today, I pose this question to him — are our mothers and sisters truly safe in Bihar?” he queried.
Regarding the tragic incident involving a daughter from Jehanabad, Yadav remarked, “This shocking case has emerged from a hostel in Patna. Can the Chief Minister still maintain that safety prevails in Bihar? Instead of targeting the Opposition, Nitish Kumar and the NDA must take robust action against those responsible.”
In response to the Chief Minister’s recurring assertions, Yadav pointed out, “Nitish Kumar claims he neither frames anyone nor protects anyone. So why has his administration yet to apprehend the suspects? The investigation agencies seemed to have initially sought to manipulate the case. Who are they trying to shield? Why did the Patna SSP issue misleading statements before the post-mortem results?”
Yadav mentioned that he visited the victim's village on Sunday and described the mood as profoundly sorrowful. “The entire community was in mourning. I was moved after meeting the girl's family. She was an outstanding student with dreams of becoming a doctor. It is incredibly tragic that such a horrific event took place in the state capital,” he expressed.
The MP further accused the state government and the police of mishandling the investigation to protect the offenders. “I will advocate for justice for the girl from the streets to Parliament. If I am unable to secure justice, I would prefer to exit from politics,” he declared.
The incident came to light when a female student from Jehanabad, preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam, was discovered unconscious in her room at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Chitragupta Nagar, Patna, on January 9.
She was promptly taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on January 11.
Her family has alleged that she suffered sexual assault, yet senior Patna police officials, including the ASP and SSP, were initially hesitant to acknowledge this claim, citing a lack of definitive evidence pending the post-mortem report.
However, the post-mortem findings, which later emerged, suggested that sexual assault could not be ruled out, raising serious doubts about the initial police response.
The post-mortem results have since led to heightened scrutiny of the Patna police's actions.
