The victim has been identified as Biswajit Sarkar.
The suspect, known as Pampa Roy, has been taken into custody, as stated by law enforcement officials.
Initial investigations revealed that Sarkar and Roy, who were in a romantic relationship, tied the knot six years ago and welcomed a daughter into their family.
This year, their daughter turned four.
Locals mentioned that Sarkar, employed at a toll plaza, and Roy often engaged in arguments over various matters.
On Saturday night, another dispute erupted when Sarkar returned home from work.
At around 8:30 p.m., when Sarkar attempted to enter the home, Roy blocked his entrance, igniting an argument.
As Sarkar tried to push past Roy, she, filled with rage, stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife.
Following the assault, Sarkar collapsed on the ground, bleeding heavily and calling for assistance.
Neighbors, upon hearing his cries, rushed to the scene and transported him to Malda Medical College and Hospital.
Subsequently, authorities at the Bamangola police station were notified. Police arrived at both the hospital and the residence for an investigation.
After gathering details, they apprehended the accused.
Sadly, Sarkar succumbed to his injuries late Saturday night while receiving treatment, as confirmed by police.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the murder.
"At first glance, it seems the crime was committed in a moment of passion. However, neighbors have indicated that the couple had frequent disputes over numerous issues. Therefore, an investigation has commenced to determine if the act was premeditated. A case has been registered, and the suspect has been arrested," stated a senior officer from the Malda district police.
