Guwahati, Nov 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, revealed on Monday that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the untimely demise of beloved singer and cultural figure Zubeen Garg has been instructed to finalize its chargesheet by December 8, moving the previous deadline forward by nine days.
In a press conference held in Guwahati, CM Sarma stated that the investigation is nearing completion and that every necessary step is being taken to ensure the report is submitted on time.
The initial timeline for the chargesheet in Zubeen's case was set for December 17, but I have directed the SIT to wrap it up by December 8. We are thoroughly prepared from all angles,” said the Chief Minister.
CM Sarma noted that procedural requirements had delayed the process since the incident occurred outside India, requiring prior clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) before the chargesheet could be submitted.
“Due to the case involving events that transpired on foreign soil, MHA approval is essential. I met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi yesterday to hasten the clearance,” he added.
He mentioned that the SIT would formally reach out to the MHA within the next three to four days, expecting the chargesheet to be filed between December 7 and 10.
This announcement from the Chief Minister comes amidst rising public demand and emotional appeals from across Assam for justice for the late singer, who was a significant figure in the state's music and film industry.
The tragic and abrupt passing of Zubeen Garg has ignited widespread mourning and speculation, with both fans and opposition leaders urging for transparency and accountability in the investigation.
The SIT, formed by the Assam government, has been assigned the responsibility of investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, which officials describe as a matter of great public sentiment.
CM Sarma reaffirmed his government's dedication to ensuring a meticulous, just, and unbiased investigation, promising that no stone would be left unturned in uncovering the truth behind this unfortunate incident.
