Guwahati, Sep 23 (NationPress) The second autopsy of renowned singer Zubeen Garg has been successfully carried out on Tuesday at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). His final rites are scheduled for later today on the city’s outskirts.

The funeral procession commenced from the Sarusajai sports complex, moving towards Sonapur, a locality designated for the memorial that the state government plans to erect in his honor.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accompanied by MoS Pabitra Margherita and other ministers, paid their respects to Zubeen Garg late Monday night.

CM Sarma had announced that a second post-mortem would be conducted today, responding to the concerns expressed by fans regarding the circumstances surrounding Garg's unexpected passing in Singapore last week while swimming.

“An autopsy was performed in Singapore, and I believe it was conducted fairly, as the local authorities are impartial towards both Zubeen Garg and myself. However, due to the considerable public outcry for further investigation, we proceeded with this second examination,” the Chief Minister stated during a press briefing.

He confirmed that the state government received consent from Garg's wife, Garima Garg, prior to proceeding with the autopsy.

“I instructed Union Minister Pabitra Margherita to reach out to Garima Garg, who indicated that the government is entitled to make decisions regarding the second autopsy. Consequently, we opted for it to be performed this morning at GMCH,” CM Sarma elaborated.

Medical professionals from AIIMS Guwahati participated in the autopsy, which commenced at 8 a.m. In a show of mourning, all schools and colleges across the state are closed today as they pay tribute to Garg, whose final rites will be held on the outskirts of Guwahati.

Furthermore, all government offices in the Kamrup district will also remain closed tomorrow.

The state government has arranged for live coverage of Garg's last rites.
