New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) At least 10 lakh citizens are set to benefit from complimentary training in artificial intelligence (AI), courtesy of the Common Service Centres (CSCs) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
As stated by IT and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, CSCs have successfully reached nearly 90 percent of villages across the nation, asserting that "If there is any medium capable of reaching every village, it is CSC."
The minister praised the village level entrepreneurs (VLEs) for their exemplary role in extending the advantages of Digital India to all citizens.
“When the world doubted how a tea seller or a vegetable vendor could engage in digital payments, that dream has now materialized — UPI payments have exceeded Visa transactions. This showcases the strength of 1.4 billion Indians,” he remarked.
Vaishnaw highlighted inspiring tales of VLE Manjulata from Mayurbhanj and VLE Rose Angelina from Meghalaya, who, despite facing tough challenges, have gained digital skills and uplifted their communities.
“In the picturesque hills and remote locales of East West Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, woman VLE Rose Angelina M. Kharsyntiew has initiated a digital transformation. Through her center in the Mairang area, she is not only providing services but also exemplifying change, empowerment, and community welfare,” Vaishnaw elaborated.
The minister also encouraged all VLEs to begin offering IRCTC services.
Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, emphasized CSCs' crucial role in narrowing the digital divide.
“The commitment to deliver the advantages of Digital India to the last segment of our society is being realized through our VLEs. A decade ago, when we initiated the Digital India program, the Prime Minister envisioned laying the groundwork for a developed India,” he observed.
He mentioned that in 2014, there were merely 83,000 CSC centers, a number that has now surged to approximately 5.50 lakh. Prasada highlighted the collaboration of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) with CSCs and acknowledged over 74,000 women VLEs who are setting new standards in empowerment.
“We are currently in the Artificial Intelligence era, advancing quickly. Over time, we must harness new technologies to create a positive impact on people's lives and empower them,” he concluded.
