New Delhi, Nov 14 (NationPress) The nationwide Digital Life Certificate initiative has successfully issued more than 1 crore certificates as of November 12, the government reported on Friday.
This campaign, taking place from November 1 to November 30, spans 2000 cities and towns, covering 2,540 locations throughout the country. By November 12, approximately 35,000 DLC camps have been conducted, as stated in an official announcement.
To achieve complete national coverage, an additional 75,000 camps will be organized by November 30, according to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions.
Out of the one crore DLCs issued so far, 58 percent or 59,13,073 certificates were generated through face authentication, with 7 lakh DLCs being issued to pensioners aged 80 years and above.
This initiative has significantly enhanced the ease and dignity of elderly, sick, and incapacitated pensioners, the ministry stated.
The face authentication method can be executed easily via smartphones, allowing pensioners to submit their DLCs anytime, anywhere. This is particularly beneficial for elderly and unwell pensioners who are exempt from visiting any bank or pension disbursing authority.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Personnel/DoPT/DARPG, noted that this achievement aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of Digital Empowerment for pensioners.
The minister emphasized that the government has transformed a long-standing challenge into an opportunity by leveraging biometric and face authentication technologies, thereby removing the necessity for physical presence.
Key stakeholders—including pension disbursing banks, DoPPW, CGDA, railways, DoT, Department of Posts, IPPB, UIDAI, NIC, and pensioners’ welfare associations—are collaborating in a comprehensive government approach to maximize outreach in remote areas, the minister added.
The DLC 4.0 version surpassed the one crore milestone more quickly than DLC 3.0, highlighting the swift digital adoption among pensioners, according to the release.
The department is on track to achieve a saturation target of two crores by 2025 through extensive field mobilization, the report indicated.
