New Delhi, Oct 3 (NationPress) The government has successfully established 550 cotton procurement centres, marking the highest number ever, which are now operational across all 11 cotton-growing regions. This initiative guarantees improved accessibility for farmers and enhances logistical efficiency during peak harvest times.
To synchronize procurement activities with regional crop readiness, operations are scheduled to begin in the Northern Zone (Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan) from October 1, the Central Zone (Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha) from October 15, and the Southern Zone (Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu) starting October 21.
In a proactive approach to prepare for the Kharif Cotton Season 2025–26, Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, conducted an in-depth review of Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations alongside key officials from all cotton-producing states, the Cotton Corporation of India Ltd. (CCI), and other Ministry of Textiles representatives.
“Her intervention illustrates the Ministry’s pledge to uphold transparent, efficient, and farmer-focused procurement processes,” stated the ministry.
Recognizing the significance of cotton for millions of farmers, the Ministry is steering the national strategy towards seamless procurement, timely payments, and enhanced digital inclusion.
During the meeting, explicit guidelines were established, urging states to fully comply with MSP operational standards.
The ‘Kapas-Kisaan’ app facilitates self-registration for farmers, offers a 7-day rolling slot booking, and provides real-time payment tracking.
All states were encouraged to launch extensive awareness campaigns to maximize farmer registration and utilization.
“Farmers are urged to register on the app by October 31 to benefit from MSP advantages. Existing users on state platforms (AP, Telangana, MP, and Haryana) should verify their records via the mobile app,” advised the ministry.
The government reaffirmed its dedication to complete digitization and financial inclusion. Payments will be directly credited to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through NACH, with SMS notifications sent at every stage—from bill generation to payment confirmation.
Local Monitoring Committees (LMCs) have been established at each centre for rigorous oversight. CCI has also launched dedicated WhatsApp helplines to quickly address farmer queries.
All eligible cotton farmers are strongly encouraged to register promptly and utilize digital tools to prevent distress sales.
