Kochi, June 26 (NationPress) The Kerala High Court is embracing technology by launching an e-filing system from 57 jails across the state, enabling inmates to submit appeals and other requests for judicial relief. This innovative service is set to commence on July 1.
Previously, all submissions were handled in paper format and sent to the High Court for processing.
Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar recognized the outdated paper-based system and requested officials to explore electronic alternatives.
This initiative gained momentum through a meeting led by the Registrar-General of the High Court, along with officials from the Prisons & Correctional Services Department.
As a result, a decision was made to provide the e-filing capability to prison authorities.
Furthermore, it was agreed to create a standard operating procedure (SOP) for transitioning to the new electronic system. In light of this, the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KeLSA) and the IT Directorate of the High Court developed two separate SOPs detailing the protocols for the new process.
The SOP by KeLSA aims to ensure consistency across jails in the handling of legal representation for inmates, as well as the transfer of essential documents to the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) and related matters.
Meanwhile, the SOP from the IT Directorate focuses on streamlining the online submission of jail appeals via the CMS login credentials assigned to the jail's officer in charge.
Login details have already been created for all 57 jails in the state within the Case Management System (CMS) overseen by the High Court.
With the Chief Justice's approval of both SOPs, the directive has been issued to implement e-filing from the 57 jails starting July 1.
