2nd Test: Stuart Clark Comments on Shubman Gill's Dismissal Due to Concentration Lapse

Adelaide, Dec 6 (NationPress) Former Australian spinner Stuart Clark asserts that India’s top-order batsman Shubman Gill lost his concentration just slightly, which led to his dismissal by Scott Boland on the first day of the day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.
Returning after missing the Perth Test due to a left thumb injury, Gill struck five beautiful boundaries, demonstrating no signs of rust, particularly after scoring a fifty in the pink-ball practice match at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.
However, on the very first ball of the 22nd over, Gill moved across to attempt a flick on a half-volley from Boland but missed, resulting in him being plumb lbw for 31 runs off 51 balls. He had only faced two of the last 29 balls before his dismissal, highlighting the manner in which he fell.
"I’m unsure about his approach. The ball hit the maker’s name at the bottom of the pad. You missed a half-volley, Shubman. I don’t understand why he wanted to refer it. He must have thought he was outside the line, but the issue, in my opinion, is that he became too involved in trying to slow the game down.
"I think he distracted himself. During the over, he wandered down to converse with Rishabh Pant, and it was evident they were attempting to slow the game. I believe he just fractionally lost his focus," stated Clark on ABC Radio.
Gill was among the four Indian wickets to fall in the first session as the visitors experienced a late collapse, finding themselves at 82/4. What seemed to be a session ending in India’s favor quickly shifted to Australia’s advantage by the time the dinner break arrived.
"I think 'frenzy' describes it well. We’ve basically witnessed everything in the first session. This Test match will undoubtedly progress at a rapid pace. There’s enough in this wicket, and given the atmospheric conditions, batting is going to be challenging," added Clark.
