London, July 13 (NationPress) Former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is confident that India would have the mindset to chase down a target between 240-250 runs to secure victory in the third Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test at Lord’s. The Indian innings might commence as early as the final session of day four, having already dismissed eight English batsmen. Karthik stated on Sky Sports, "I believe India would trust themselves to chase down 240, 250. All their batsmen are in form and they have consistently surpassed 300 in this series."
He also praised off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar, who claimed three vital wickets of Joe Root, Jamie Smith, and Ben Stokes. "Washington is stepping in for one of the game’s legends, Ravichandran Ashwin, and has often been overshadowed throughout his career," he remarked.
"Yet, he is still young and possesses a bright future due to his batting skills. If he can contribute with the ball during the Test match, that’s precisely what his role entails. He truly outsmarted Smith," added Karthik.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain also shares the sentiment that India appears to be ahead of England in the quest for victory at Lord’s, potentially taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. "India are slight favorites in my opinion because the pitch is offering some assistance, but not excessively," he noted.
"The new ball is absolutely crucial, but what I appreciate is that as the ball ages, different skills must be employed. A balanced attack is essential. You might even require two spinners. If the pitch isn’t turning, deception in the air could be necessary, just like Washington has demonstrated."
