Dhaka, Nov 14 (NationPress) Olympian archer Dhiraj Bommadevara secured the gold medal in the men's recurve individual event, triumphing over his fellow Indian Rahul as India wrapped up their participation in the Asian Archery Championships with a total of 10 medals here on Friday.

Dhiraj dominated the final match, defeating Rahul 6-2 to claim the top podium position.

In a fiercely contested opening set that ended in a tie at 1–1, Dhiraj took control by winning the second set 29–26, putting him ahead 2–1. Rahul fought back strongly, tying the third set, yet Dhiraj maintained a 3–1 lead. He sealed the victory by clinching the final set 28–26.

Earlier in the day, Ankita Bhakat achieved a remarkable win against Paris Olympics individual silver medalist Nam Su-hyeon of Korea, capturing the women’s recurve individual gold with a score of 7-3.

In the semifinals, Ankita narrowly outperformed five-time Olympian and fellow Indian Deepika Kumari 6-5 in an exciting shoot-off. Meanwhile, India's Sangeeta, who had previously gained momentum from her success at the Tashkent 2023 Asia Cup, fell to Nam Su-hyeon 0-6 in the second semifinal.

Sangeeta concluded her campaign in the recurve women’s individual event with a bronze medal, edging out Deepika 6-5 in the bronze playoff shoot-off.

In the men's team event, India's squad triumphed over Korea, winning their first gold in the men's recurve team event since 2007. Korea had been unbeaten since 2013.

The Indian team, featuring Yashdeep Bhoge, Atanu Das, and Rahul, achieved victory by a narrow 5-4 margin in a shoot-off. Both teams scored 29 in the shoot-off, but India secured gold with Rahul’s arrow landing closest to the center.

On a different note, the recurve mixed team of Anshika Kumari and Yashdeep lost the bronze medal match to the Korean team of Jang Minhee and Seo Mingi.

On Thursday, the compound archers earned five medals to close their campaign. The women’s final was an all-Indian contest, where reigning Asian Games champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam captured her third individual gold at the Asian Championships, having previously won in 2015 and 2021.

Vennam, who delivered a near-perfect round of 149 in the semifinals against Chen Si-yu of Chinese Taipei, faced a tough challenge from 17-year-old compatriot Prithika Pradeep, the silver medallist at Winnipeg 2025, before winning the final by two points (147-145).

Earlier, the Indian trio of Vennam, Prithika, and Deepshikha teamed up to win the compound women's team gold against Korea, represented by Oh Yoohyun, Park Yerin, and Park Jungyoon.

However, the world No. 10 Abhishek Verma-led men's compound team, including Sahil Rajesh Jadhav and Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge, lost by one point in the final against Kazakhstan (229-230), settling for silver.

Meanwhile, the compound mixed team, consisting of veteran archer Verma and newcomer Deepshikha, bagged gold by defeating the local pair of Bonna Akter and Himu Bachhar, 153-155.
