Ranchi, Jan 24 (NationPress) In a remarkable display of athleticism, Harmanjot Singh, representing the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), clinched victory in the men's individual 10km event, finishing with a time of 30:33. Athletes from the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) showcased their dominance during the 60th National Cross Country Championships held in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Saturday.
Competitors from RSPB were poised to secure team titles in both the senior men's and women's categories. In the women's individual 10km race, Nandani Gupta of RSPB emerged victorious with a time of 35:42.28.
The men's U20 title was awarded to Uttar Pradesh with 22 points, while the women's U20 trophy was claimed by Maharashtra with 21 points.
A total of 35 teams, including affiliated state units, participated in the National Cross Country Championships in Ranchi on Saturday. Overall, 732 athletes, featuring 328 female runners, confirmed their participation in this inaugural domestic competition of the 2026 season.
The distance for senior men and women was set at 10km, while junior men competed over 8km. The U20 women's distance was 6km, and U18 boys ran 6km, whereas U18 girls raced 4km.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will select both senior and junior (U20) athletes for the upcoming Asian Cross Country Championships in Japan next month. According to AFI president Bahadur Singh Sagoo, the top four runners from each senior (men's and women's) and junior (men's and women's) groups will be chosen for the Indian team during these championships.
