Bayern Munich Defeats Monchengladbach to Maintain Bundesliga Lead

Monchengladbach (Germany), Jan 12 (NationPress) A decisive goal from Harry Kane allowed Bayern Munich to preserve its four-point advantage at the summit of the standings, defeating Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 in the 16th round.
The reigning champions took charge right from the start, forcing Monchengladbach into a defensive stance.
The Foals struggled to escape their own half, and Bayern's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had minimal intervention during the opening 45 minutes, as reported by Xinhua.
Despite dominating possession, Bayern struggled with accuracy in front of goal, as Leon Goretzka missed a counterattack opportunity in the 19th minute, and Thomas Muller failed to convert a promising chance against Monchengladbach's goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas just four minutes later.
After halftime, Monchengladbach showed improvement and nearly scored, with Tim Kleindienst heading a perfect cross from Rocco Reitz over the bar just minutes into the second half.
Bayern remained a threat, with Leroy Sane testing Nicolas with a powerful shot from distance.
The breakthrough came in the 66th minute when Lukas Ullrich fouled Michael Olise in the penalty area. Harry Kane coolly converted the penalty, marking his 15th goal of the season by placing the ball into the bottom right corner.
Despite their efforts, Monchengladbach could not respond, and Bayern continued to miss chances, ultimately settling for a narrow 1-0 win that kept them four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. Meanwhile, Monchengladbach fell to 10th place following their sixth defeat of the season.
“Today was good, but it wasn’t straightforward for us. Although we should have scored more, we’re pleased with the 1-0 victory,” stated Bayern coach Vincent Kompany.
In other matches, third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt broke a six-match winless streak, securing a 1-0 victory against newly promoted St Paul’s thanks to Omar Marmoush. Freiburg climbed back into the top six with a 3-2 win over resilient newcomers Holstein Kiel. Wolfsburg returned to winning form with a 1-0 victory over Hoffenheim with a goal from Mohammed Amoura.
