Mumbai, Oct 18 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has conveyed its profound sadness and condolences regarding the tragic demise of three young Afghan cricketers - Kabeer Agha, Sibghatullah, and Haroon, who tragically lost their lives due to the barbaric cross-border airstrikes by Pakistan in the Paktika province of Afghanistan.

The BCCI expresses its solidarity with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the cricketing community, and the families of the deceased players during this sorrowful time and strongly condemns this heinous and unjustifiable act.

The loss of innocent lives, especially those of promising athletes, is profoundly heartbreaking and alarming, stated BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia in a statement released on Saturday.

The BCCI also extended its sincere sympathies to the Afghan populace, sharing in their anguish and loss.

Earlier today, Afghanistan withdrew its team from a tri-nation series with Pakistan and Sri Lanka scheduled for next month as a response to the airstrikes. Afghanistan was set to compete in the tri-series, which also included Sri Lanka, in Lahore and Rawalpindi from November 5 to 29.

The ACB publicly condemned the incident via social media, labeling it as a "cowardly attack orchestrated by the Pakistani regime."

"The Afghanistan Cricket Board expresses its deepest sorrow and grief over the tragic martyrdom of the brave cricketers from Urgun District in Paktika Province, who were targeted this evening in a cowardly attack carried out by the Pakistani regime," the statement read.

"The ACB regards this as a significant loss for Afghanistan’s sports community, its athletes, and the cricketing family. The ACB also extends its deepest condolences and solidarity to the bereaved families of the martyrs and to the people of Paktika Province," it added.

The BCCI is adopting a firm stance against Pakistan, aligning with the Indian government, which has accused Pakistan of harboring terrorism against India. The BCCI had previously resolved to refrain from any bilateral cricket relations with Pakistan until the nation ceases to support and promote terrorism.
