Biten Singh breaks course record to win Ironman 70.3 Goa 2026
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Indian Army athlete Biten Singh shattered the course record at the sixth edition of Ironman 70.3 Goa on 1 November 2026, clocking 4:24:29 to claim the men's title in Margao, Goa. His time bettered the previous mark of 4:25:47 set by Uzbekistan's Konstantin Belousov in 2025, finishing 1 minute and 18 seconds faster than last year's winner. The result marks one of the most significant individual performances in the event's history.
A Record Built Under Difficult Circumstances
Singh's achievement carries extra weight given the conditions of his preparation. The athlete is currently posted in Tawang and completed three months of focused training ahead of race day, balancing athletic ambitions with the demands of active military service. The victory also served as a personal redemption: Singh had been forced to withdraw from the 2024 edition due to dehydration, making this year's course-record run a deeply personal milestone.
'I am very happy. I had targeted before that today I will break the record,' Singh said after crossing the finish line.
The Course and the Field
More than 2,000 triathletes from 30 countries took on the gruelling course, which comprised a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km cycling leg, and a 21.1 km run, beginning along the iconic Miramar beachfront. The field spanned elite competitors, age-group athletes, and relay teams, underlining Goa's growing stature as an international endurance sports destination.
In the men's overall standings, Anirudh Ravichandran (India) finished second in 4:46:32, while Nihal Baig (India) completed the podium in 4:52:59 — an all-Indian top three in the men's category.
Women's and Relay Results
In the women's category, Marina Shliakhtina claimed first place with a time of 5:30:29. Sabina Iskakova finished second in 5:42:58, and Mellanie Vendt completed the women's podium in 6:04:54.
The relay category produced competitive racing, with Team Fit Swaggers Goa leading the standings in 4:33:24, ahead of Team Serious About Training (4:35:22) and Team Airforce 2 (4:47:04). The Indian Air Force contingent was among the notable relay participants, with team members noting the logistical challenges of competing together despite being posted at different locations.
'We are all posted at different places, and different people work in different environments. Even with those challenges, we worked very hard, made sacrifices, came here and formed a team that performed very well,' said a member of the Air Force contingent.
What's Next for Biten Singh
With the course record now secured, Singh has set his sights on the Ironman World Championship, a goal he describes as a personal dream. He acknowledged that competing at the full-distance Ironman would require a fresh and more extensive training block. The event was organised by Yoska in collaboration with the Government of Goa and Ironman, and was presented by Herbalife.
