New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) Former South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher praised Shubman Gill's remarkable captain's inning of an unbeaten 61 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He emphasized that even while losing a few wickets around him, the opener remained composed and focused throughout the match.
After GT limited SRH to 152/8, with Mohammed Siraj achieving his career-best IPL figures of 4-17 alongside contributions from Prasidh Krishna (2-25) and Sai Kishore (2-24), skipper Gill spearheaded the chase with his stellar 61 runs off 43 balls, while Washington Sundar and Sherfane Rutherford provided vital support, aiding GT in clinching a convincing seven-wicket victory with 20 balls to spare.
This victory marked GT's third consecutive win, propelling them to the second position on the points table.
“They’re in a strong position right now, and this win will boost their confidence significantly. Winning away from home is challenging, especially considering how convincingly they performed. Their bowling was impressive, far better than what I expected from the Sunrisers. They struggled early on, but captain Shubman Gill stepped up and delivered a commendable captain's knock,” Boucher noted during his commentary on JioHotstar.
Boucher further assessed SRH's performance, pointing out their fourth consecutive defeat, which leaves them at the bottom of the table. He expressed concerns over the lack of confidence in Pat Cummins's batting lineup, suggesting they fell short by 30–40 runs of a competitive score.
“They seemed aware that the pitch they played on tonight was not what they were used to. It appeared they were trying to play more responsibly, but there was a visible lack of confidence in their batting. Every attempt to accelerate their scoring ended with a wicket,” he added.
“There was no significant partnership that allowed them to build momentum. That’s why I believe they ended up 15–20 runs short, or perhaps even 30–40 runs short. It just didn't align with their usual style of play on this pitch tonight,” he concluded.
