Brazil, March 19 (NationPress) The Brazilian national team is set to continue their World Cup qualification journey. They are gearing up for what Wolverhampton midfielder Andre believes will be their most formidable challenge of the campaign.
The Selecao will host Colombia in Brasilia on Friday (IST) before heading to Buenos Aires for an exciting clash against Argentina on the 26th (IST).
Currently, the team, under the guidance of Dorival Junior, sits in fifth position on the table, which would secure them an automatic spot in next year’s tournament.
"These matches are going to be our toughest tests yet. However, we are more than capable of delivering two outstanding performances. Our immediate focus is on Colombia, who are a challenging opponent. Fortunately, we have the advantage of playing at home, and all of our key players are in excellent form for their clubs in Europe," Andre stated in an interview with FIFA.
Andre shared his enthusiasm about playing alongside a star-studded Brazil squad, which features Vinicius Junior and Raphinha, regarded as two of the finest wingers in modern football.
“It’s a privilege to play with them. They will rejoin the squad, and we’re looking forward to two fantastic matches. Representing my country is a huge honor, and I hope this international window brings us two victories,” he expressed.
Alongside Andre, Matheus Cunha also received a call-up following his impressive performance. The versatile midfielder has not played for his country since the loss to Uruguay in October 2023 and has netted 13 goals in 26 Premier League matches this season, compared to 12 goals in 32 games last season.
"I was thrilled for him. He has earned this call-up through his performance at Wolves. I hope he maintains his great form for Brazil, as we will need it for these two challenging matches," Andre concluded.
