IPL 2025: Is Finishing the Season Strongly Crucial for CSK?

New Delhi, May 19 (NationPress) As the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) approach the conclusion of what has been one of their most challenging IPL seasons to date, head coach Stephen Fleming emphasized the significance of seizing the chance to wrap up their campaign positively and to regain some dignity.

Having been eliminated from playoff contention weeks ago and sitting at the bottom of the table, the upcoming match against the Rajasthan Royals at the neutral Arun Jaitley Stadium is primarily about avoiding the last position in IPL 2025, a fate that both teams are eager to evade.

“The players representing Chennai in the next two matches will carry a sense of pride. Finishing the season strongly is crucial for us. Our recent win was encouraging, and we reflect on past seasons where we've struggled,” stated Fleming.

“In previous seasons where we concluded on a high note, it has positively impacted our subsequent performances. Thus, there’s always potential, and the intensity we display in these two games will mirror our desire to win the competition. Every time we don the CSK jersey, it’s imperative that we perform to the best of our abilities.”

“We acknowledge that we haven't met expectations, but we have two opportunities to end on a positive note. This remains unchanged. We are also evaluating opportunities for other players, a practice we’ve maintained in our last few encounters. Our focus will be on leveraging our performances positively moving forward,” Fleming added during the pre-match press conference.

Following CSK's playoff elimination, the integration of young talent into the squad commenced. Emerging players like Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis have emerged as bright spots in what has been a disappointing season for the team.

“Their contributions have been a silver lining in a challenging season. We realized early on that we were lagging behind, so introducing these young players is pivotal for our future as we aim to refresh the team and reaffirm our playing philosophy,” he remarked.

“The last match showcased promising performances, and I believe in a blend of youth and experience. While experience is critical in winning tournaments, the talent among younger players is undeniable. Throughout the season, I’ve evaluated numerous players and now possess a solid understanding of our options.”

When asked about the shift towards younger players, Fleming clarified, “Age isn’t my primary concern. While I value experience, which has served us well over the years, it hasn’t worked out this season, possibly due to form or strategy.”

“Numerous factors can influence outcomes. The competition is fierce, and our consistent performance over the years makes this poor season surprising. However, this is understandable considering the franchise's high standards.”
