Navi Mumbai, Jan 11 (NationPress) In a stunning display, Sophie Devine of Gujarat Giants smashed two fours and four sixes off Sneh Rana from Delhi Capitals during the sixth over of Match 4, amassing 32 runs. This remarkable feat established it as the most expensive over in the history of the Women's Premier League (WPL) at the Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
The New Zealand all-rounder unleashed her power in the sixth over, connecting for boundaries on the first two deliveries and then unleashing a barrage of four consecutive sixes, leaving both Rana and the Delhi Capitals team in disbelief.
This over surpassed the previous record of 28 runs conceded by Deepti Sharma of UP Warriorz in a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the 2025 season of WPL. Ironically, it was Rana who had hit Sharma for three sixes and two fours in that over, which included a no-ball.
Interestingly, this marks the second occasion where Sophie Devine has scored 32 runs in an over off Rana, having previously done so in a T20I.
During her explosive innings, Devine reached her fifty in just 25 balls, propelling Gujarat Giants to an impressive total of 80 for no loss in the six-over Power-play.
Devine kicked off the over with a four off the first ball, driving it through mid-wicket. After a drop from Marizanne Kapp on the second ball, which rolled for a boundary, she then executed a series of sixes, dancing down the pitch to clear the ropes with style.
On the fifth delivery, she went down on one knee to send a half-volley soaring over deep mid-wicket, followed by a full toss dispatched beyond the mid-wicket boundary.
Continuing her dominance, Devine also hit three sixes in an over bowled by N Shree Charani in the ninth over. She fell just five runs short of a well-earned century, scoring 95 runs from 47 balls before being caught by Shree Charani off Nandini Sharma. Her highest score in WPL remains 99 not out, achieved in the inaugural season.
