Chennai, March 11 (NationPress) The CEO of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kasi Viswanathan, has indicated that the seasoned wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is expected to participate in every match during the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He emphasized that the final call regarding Dhoni's specific role will rest with the team management.

The 19th edition of the IPL is scheduled to kick off on March 28, with all teams currently engaged in their training camps to gear up for the lucrative tournament. Players who participated in the recently concluded T20 World Cup will soon rejoin their respective franchises to commence training for the event.

As the iconic Dhoni prepares to make his appearance in IPL 2026 for CSK, questions arose regarding his ability to play all matches due to his age. However, Kasi dismissed these concerns, asserting, “He will play all the matches, according to me.”

When inquired about the role he may assume in the tournament, especially with another keeper-batter, Sanju Samson, joining the team, he mentioned, “That I cannot say. That is a cricketing decision which will be taken by the cricketing staff. Not by the administrative staff. So they will decide whether he is going to play as a batsman or as a wicketkeeper-batter, or as an impact player.”

The schedule for the tournament is expected to be released on Thursday, considering the electoral process set to commence in the country. Kasi confirmed that the five-time champions will conduct all their home matches in Chennai, stating, “We are supposed to play only in Tamil Nadu only. So we are waiting for the schedule to be announced by the BCCI.”

He expressed pride in the CSK players, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, who delivered match-winning performances during India’s T20 World Cup triumph, adding, “We are very happy that India has won the World Cup, that too they've won it back-to-back. We are delighted because two of the CSK players, Sanju and Shivam Dube, have performed extremely well. It gives us a lot of confidence in the team doing well for CSK here also.”

Regarding the players' readiness in the camp, he mentioned, “Practice is going on well, no problems so far.”
