Kolkata, June 27 (NationPress) East Bengal FC kicked off their Calcutta Football League 2025 campaign in impressive fashion, dismantling Measurers Club with a commanding 7-1 victory at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium this Friday. Goals from Manotos Maji, Sayan Banerjee, Vanlalpeka Guite, Tanmay Das, Jesin TK (2), and Suman Dey marked a dominant performance for the Red & Golds.
This match was significant as it marked the first meeting between these two teams in the Premier Division of the CFL, and it certainly did not favor the Measurers Club.
East Bengal displayed their prowess throughout the match, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead in the first half.
Debutant Manotos Maji set the tone with the opening goal in the 23rd minute, taking advantage of a pinpoint assist from Vanlalpeka Guite, who skillfully advanced into the opponent's box from the left. Sayan Banerjee doubled the lead in the 35th minute with an expertly timed lob from Chaku Mandi's assist.
Just two minutes later, Guite found the net himself in the 37th minute, receiving a perfectly timed pass from Naseeb Rahman, highlighting the team's seamless attacking strategy.
The second half witnessed East Bengal's continued dominance as they netted four more goals.
Midfielder Tanmay Das struck the fourth goal with a stunning long-range effort in the 48th minute. Jesin TK, who was the top scorer in the previous season with 13 goals, added two more to his tally in quick succession.
His first came in the 63rd minute from Ajad Saheem's low cross, followed by another in the 66th minute with a deft left-footed finish from close range. Despite the scoreline, Andy Zakhari managed to score a consolation goal for Measurers Club in the 69th minute.
Suman Dey capped off the scoring with a breathtaking long-range strike in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
In reflecting on the match, Coach Archishman Biswas stated, "It's a positive start to the tournament, yet there’s plenty of room for improvement. Conceding a goal was unnecessary. While we’re pleased with our scoring, we must also focus on our defense. We aim to maintain an attacking style of play."
