New Delhi, June 9 (NationPress) Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has expressed that he might need to part ways with the club to avoid wasting valuable years of his career. Elliott is currently part of the England under-21 squad for the European Championship, which starts its journey against Slovenia at the Štadión pod Zoborom in Slovakia. He shared his thoughts regarding his career trajectory.
“It’s a circumstance that I need to discuss with the team, as I’m nearing 23 next season. I truly don’t want to be wasting years [of my career] because it’s a brief career and the future is uncertain,” Elliott stated, as reported by ESPN.
Elliott, now 22, made his move to Liverpool from Fulham at just 16 in August 2019. After making his debut in a Carabao Cup match against MK Dons a month later, he has since tallied 147 senior appearances for the club, though many of those were as a substitute.
Having fractured his foot, Elliott missed the start of the 2024-25 season, making only 18 league appearances and accumulating just 360 minutes on the pitch.
While Elliott has a deep affection for Liverpool, he acknowledges that a potential transfer might be necessary for his career advancement.
“My aim is to enhance my skills and become the best version of myself. If that means moving elsewhere, that’s a choice I’ll have to consider, and I’ll see what unfolds,” he mentioned.
“There’s nothing driving me away; I cherish the club, the fans, and the team. However, it’s crucial to prioritize what’s best for my career,” he concluded.
