Nottingham, June 29 (NationPress) England's women's cricket team has incurred a 10 percent fine on their match fee due to a slow over-rate during the first T20I against India held in Nottingham on Saturday.
After accounting for time allowances, England was found to be two overs behind the required target.
The ICC stated, "Helen Pack from the ICC International Panel of Match Referees assigned the penalty as England was deemed two overs short after considering time allowances."
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players face a five percent deduction of their match fee for each over their team fails to complete within the designated time.
The charge was brought forth by on-field umpires Jacqueline Williams, James Middlebrook, along with third umpire Sue Redfern and fourth umpire Anna Harris. England's captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, admitted to the violation and accepted the suggested penalty, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
Choosing to field first in Nottingham, England faced a formidable challenge as Smriti Mandhana scored 112 runs off 62 balls, leading India to a remarkable total of 210/5 in 20 overs, which marks their highest score against England in T20 Internationals.
This innings marked Mandhana's maiden T20I century and her 14th career century, including 11 in ODIs and two in Tests. She becomes the second Indian woman to achieve a T20I century following the regular captain, Harmanpreet Kaur.
In response to India's 210, England was dismissed for just 113 runs in 14.5 overs, suffering a 97-run defeat, their most significant setback in T20I history.
With this victory, India now leads the five-match T20I series 1-0. The second T20I is set to take place on July 1 in Bristol.
