New Delhi, Nov 5 (NationPress) The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has firmly and unequivocally rejected the allegations made by women’s team player Jahanara Alam in a recent interview. Alam accused captain Nigar Sultana Joty of misconduct, including the physical assault of fellow players.
In a conversation with a Bangladesh newspaper, the sidelined pacer Alam, who last represented Bangladesh against Ireland in December 2024 before being excluded from the team, made the alarming claim that captain Sultana "frequently physically assaults junior players in the squad."
"This behavior is not a surprise. Joty often hits the juniors. During the World Cup, the juniors confided in me, saying, 'I won’t do this again. If I do, I might get slapped again.' I heard from others, 'I was slapped yesterday.' During the Dubai tour, she even summoned a junior to her room and slapped her," Alam recounted to Kaler Kantho, also alleging that internal politics have adversely impacted team dynamics.
The BCB swiftly addressed the matter, labeling Alam's statements as "groundless and concocted."
"The Bangladesh Cricket Board has acknowledged recent comments made in the media by a former member of the Bangladesh women’s national cricket team, wherein she has levied a series of accusations against the current national team captain, fellow players, staff, and management," stated the BCB.
"The BCB categorically and strongly denies these allegations, which are unfounded, fabricated, and devoid of any truth. It is regrettable that such derogatory and scandalous claims have been made at a time when the Bangladesh women’s team is displaying admirable progress and solidarity on the international platform.
“The Board has found no evidence to substantiate any of the allegations made and stands resolutely behind the team and its members,” the statement continued.
Alam, who has appeared in 52 ODIs and 83 T20Is for Bangladesh, sought a hiatus from the national team earlier this year due to mental health concerns and requested to be excluded from central contracts.
