New Delhi, Nov 29 (NationPress) Former South African captain Faf du Plessis has made the decision to withdraw from the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and will not be entering the auction next month.
Throughout his IPL journey, Du Plessis has donned the colors of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and played for the Delhi Capitals in the last tournament, where he served as Axar Patel’s deputy. Yet, he was among the seven players let go by the franchise prior to the auction.
Now, the ex-RCB captain is stepping back from the 19th edition of this lucrative league, as he looks forward to embracing a new adventure in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“After 14 seasons in the IPL, I have chosen not to enter the auction this year,” Faf stated in a message posted on his Instagram.
“This is a significant choice, and one filled with appreciation as I reflect on my journey. This league has played a crucial role in my career. I’ve had the fortune to play alongside world-class teammates, for extraordinary franchises, and in front of fans whose enthusiasm is unparalleled. India has gifted me friendships, lessons, and memories that have molded me both as a cricketer and as an individual.
“To every coach, teammate, support staff member, and fan who has supported me throughout the years — thank you. Your encouragement has meant everything. Fourteen years is a substantial period, and I take pride in what this chapter signifies for me. India holds a unique place in my heart, and this is certainly not a farewell — you will see me again.
“This year, I am opting for a new challenge and will participate in the upcoming PSL season. It’s an exhilarating opportunity for me — a chance to discover something new, to develop as a player, and to immerse myself in a league brimming with exceptional talent and energy. A new country. A new atmosphere. A new challenge. I eagerly anticipate the warm hospitality of Pakistan. See you all soon,” he added.
The IPL 2026 mini auction is scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi.
