Singapore, July 23 (NationPress) Valencia's Spain Under-21 defender Cristhian Mosquera is on the brink of finalizing a transfer to Arsenal after meeting up with the squad during the club's Asian tour in Singapore on Wednesday. Reports indicate that Mosquera has accepted a five-year contract with an option for an additional year, with Arsenal set to pay Valencia an initial sum of 13 million pounds (17.6 million US dollars).
The 21-year-old Mosquera has emerged as one of the few positive elements amid Valencia's attempts to evade relegation from La Liga over the past two seasons, having participated in all but two matches during the 2023-24 season and just one last year. His aerial strength and speed have been crucial in supporting the club's efforts to remain in the top tier.
This move makes Mosquera Arsenal's fifth acquisition this summer as the club seeks to surpass last season's second place finish in the Premier League. Other signings include goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and forward Noni Madueke from Chelsea, midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford, and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
Additionally, Arsenal is reportedly nearing finalization of a deal for Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, with discussions said to be at an extremely advanced stage.
In an interview on the club's website, Zubimendi revealed that Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta played a significant role in his decision to join the North London team.
"I don't know what he saw in me, but what I saw in him is that he's a top coach in Europe," Zubimendi stated. "When I wanted to leave Real Sociedad, I was looking for a quality coach. His attention to detail and obsession with the game made me believe I found the right match."
"This is a new chapter for me, the change I desired. From the very first day, I have felt the greatness of this club and am adjusting well," added the Spain international.
