San Francisco, Sep 22 (NationPress) Taylor Fritz, fresh off his historic victory against Carlos Alcaraz, the first world No. 1 he has defeated, triumphed over Alexander Zverev in a nail-biting contest, finishing with scores of 6-3, 7-6(4) to secure the Laver Cup for Team World.

Fritz's remarkable performance, featuring two wins against Top 3 players, contributed five points to a decisive 15-9 victory in San Francisco, marking Team World’s third Laver Cup title in just four years.

From the onset, Fritz dominated the exchanges with his bold rallying, effectively cutting through the sluggish conditions. He constantly pressured Zverev until the German was finally broken at 4-3 in the second set.

Though Zverev initially seemed hampered physically, he surged with renewed vigor during the match's climax. Yet, Fritz elevated his game to counter Zverev’s challenge, engaging in a thrilling finale where both athletes showcased their top-level skills under immense pressure, as reported by ATP.

This victory marked the debut of new Team World captain Andre Agassi, who celebrated his first Laver Cup triumph from the sidelines, his energetic presence motivating his team throughout the event.

“Watching my teammates get energized and seeing a legend like Andre cheering for me, it’s just impossible not to give everything I have on every point,” Fritz expressed.

Earlier in the day, Alcaraz and Casper Ruud provided a glimmer of hope for Team Europe. However, Alex de Minaur’s win against Jakub Mensik positioned Team World just one victory away from the Laver Cup title, leaving Team Europe needing two consecutive match wins to force a one-set Decider doubles.

Alcaraz secured victory in the day's third match, setting the stage for an anticipated clash between Zverev and Fritz, which ultimately concluded the Laver Cup.

De Minaur moved Team World closer to glory with a win over Mensik, concluding with a score of 6-3, 6-4, as he faced a 0/40 situation in the last game, thus providing a 12-6 lead for his team.
