New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill expressed his admiration for the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence, emphasizing how it played a crucial role in his recovery ahead of the upcoming T20I series against South Africa.
Gill suffered a neck injury during the first Test against the Proteas in Kolkata last month, leading to his absence from the second Test and the subsequent three-game ODI series. He sought rehabilitation at the BCCI CoE and is now set to don the Indian jersey again as the Men in Blue face the South Africans in a five-match T20I series starting on Tuesday.
The BCCI shared a video featuring Gill on social media, where he elaborated on his recovery journey. He stated, “I feel much better. Since the day I arrived, I've participated in numerous skill and training sessions. It’s been a remarkable experience. For any athlete, from recovery to training, this is a paradise. You come here to improve both physically and mentally.”
Discussing the outstanding facilities at the CoE and the impact of the NCA on his early career, Gill remarked, “The facilities here are unparalleled. The oxygen chamber, cryotherapy, and various recovery methods I've utilized have been incredible. The array of machines available is astonishing and reflects the size and quality of the setup.”
“During my under-14 and under-16 days, it was a point of pride for players who had been to the NCA. Competing in the under-16 state finals, only about 25-30 out of 200 players would get selected for the NCA, making it a significant achievement.”
“We eagerly anticipated training here, knowing we were amongst the elite. This facility allows us to enhance our skills and mental toughness to reach the next level.”
Gill also commended the dedication of the trainers and coaches at the NCA, saying, “All the coaches, trainers, and physios are here to support us. However, your willingness to work on yourself is what will elevate you above the competition, and that’s how I believe anyone visiting can benefit.”
As Gill re-enters the Indian squad, the Men in Blue prepare to clash with the Proteas in the first T20I, scheduled at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday.
