New Delhi, Nov 10 (NationPress) World Cup champion and head coach of the Indian men's cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, along with Olympic bronze medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia, has shared their heartfelt condolences for the innocent lives lost in the explosion near the Red Fort metro station on Monday.
A significant blast occurred near Gate No. 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station during the evening rush, tragically claiming the lives of 10 individuals and injuring numerous others. The explosion, which took place at a busy traffic intersection, sparked widespread panic throughout the Old Delhi region, igniting nearby vehicles and breaking windows.
Witnesses recounted the blast as a thunderous sound, accompanied by thick black smoke rising from the debris. This incident followed closely on the heels of the J&K Police dismantling a transnational terror network associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind in Faridabad, where they seized 2,900 kg of explosives and weapons.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the blast in Delhi. I pray for strength for the families of the victims and for the swift recovery of the injured,” Gambhir wrote in a post on X, previously known as Twitter.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia also expressed his sorrow over the incident, condemning the blast. He stated, “I am heartbroken by the loss of innocent lives in the car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station today. This is a profoundly devastating incident. I extend my support to the victims' families and urge the government to conduct an immediate, transparent, and fair investigation into the occurrence,” he noted on X.
Former wrestler and Olympian Vinesh Phogat also expressed her grief over the tragedy at the Red Fort, conveying her condolences to the families affected by the incident.
The explosion occurred in a densely populated area on a day when authorities recovered around 360 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate along with a stockpile of weapons from a rented space belonging to a Kashmiri doctor in Haryana's Faridabad.
