New Delhi, Sep 27 (NationPress) The Global Chess League has returned for its highly awaited third season, and the Alpine SG Pipers are gearing up with an impressive roster.

This season features a mix of established champions and fresh talent, and notably, it marks the league's inaugural edition in India—a global chess hub teeming with enthusiastic fans—running from December 13-24.

At the helm of the Pipers for this season are R Praggnanandhaa, the previous season's Player of the Season, and Hou Yifan, the reigning World No.1 female player, both of whom have been retained by the franchise due to their outstanding performances last season. Their expertise and reliability will serve as the backbone of the team.

Moreover, the Alpine SG Pipers have revealed four prominent additions to their lineup, enhancing the team with a mix of global experience and youthful vigor.

Fabiano Caruana, the American Grandmaster and former World Championship contender, joins as the team's Icon Player. Anish Giri, renowned for his consistent high-level play, is signed on as Superstar Men, while Nino Batsiashvili, a talented player from Georgia, comes on board as Superstar Women. Leon Luke Mendonca, an emerging talent from India known for his aggressive strategies, will represent the team as a Prodigy.
