Hayley Matthews Reclaims Position in Top 10 of ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings

Dubai, Dec 31 (NationPress) West Indies opener Hayley Matthews concluded 2024 with flair, scoring her seventh ODI century and making her way back into the top 10 of the ICC women’s batting rankings.
Matthews' outstanding 106 runs off 109 deliveries in the second ODI against India not only propelled her team to a formidable total but also boosted her ranking to a joint-seventh position with a rating of 652. She now shares this rank with Australia's talented left-hander Beth Mooney.
While Matthews shone brightly, Australia's Alyssa Healy, who had a half-century earlier in the series, fell one spot to third place in the rankings (720 points), being surpassed by Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu (733 points), who advanced to second.
Indian players Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh also made strides in the rankings. Rodrigues climbed four places to 22nd after her scores of 29 and 52 during the series, while Ghosh ascended seven spots to 41st, thanks to her unbeaten scores of 13 and 23. Meanwhile, Chinelle Henry of the West Indies made significant gains, rising 21 places to 65th, driven by her determined half-century in the final ODI.
India’s Deepti Sharma stood out as the leading bowler of the series, taking eight wickets across two matches, including a remarkable career-best of 6/31 in the third ODI. This impressive performance narrowed the gap between Deepti and South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp in the bowling rankings. Deepti maintained her fifth position but is now just 12 points behind Kapp, with a rating of 665.
Hayley Matthews’ off-spin also contributed to her rise, allowing her to leap two spots to seventh in the bowling rankings, surpassing England's Charlie Dean and Bangladesh's Nahida Akter. India's Titas Sadhu made her debut in the top 100, marking a notable achievement in her early career.
Despite their remarkable individual achievements, neither Matthews nor Deepti advanced in the ICC all-rounder rankings. Matthews remains in third place, while Deepti is steady in sixth. However, Chinelle Henry's all-round performance in the series propelled her up six spots, allowing her to share the 27th position with Australia’s Megan Schutt.
