New Delhi, April 26 (NationPress) In a significant milestone for India, Yogasana took the spotlight at the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sport Championship, which was inaugurated on Friday with a lively opening ceremony held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Arena, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi.
Hosted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Yogasana Bharat, and the Asian Yogasana Federation, this championship unites over 200 top athletes from more than 20 Asian nations to honor and engage in the exciting and rapidly evolving field of Yogasana Sport.
The inauguration was officiated by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, who highlighted India's pivotal role in promoting wellness and sports on a global scale.
“Yoga is an invaluable legacy from our Upanishads, carefully cultivated by our sages and gifted to the world as a means to achieve harmony, health, and discipline. Today, through efforts like the Yogasana Sport Championship, we are evolving this ancient knowledge into a worldwide movement.

The ceremony included the lighting of traditional lamps, a performance of the Indian National Anthem by deaf divyang athletes, and captivating cultural displays by Arwachin School and Dhruv Global School, illustrating the spiritual and physical essence of yoga through movement.
In his special address, Yogrishi Swami Ramdev, President of World Yogasana, expressed his aspiration for a future where Yoga transcends practice to become a recognized sport: “As we honor Yogasana as a sport, let it also serve as a reminder that yoga should be lived, not merely learned, so that our character embodies it and inspires others to embrace the yogi's path.”
