London, July 31 (NationPress) In a significant change to India’s lineup, Dhruv Jurel, Karun Nair, and Prasidh Krishna have been named in the playing eleven as Ollie Pope, England’s stand-in captain, won the toss and chose to bowl first during the fifth Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test at The Oval on Thursday.

The match might experience a delayed commencement due to rain that followed the toss, prompting the covers to be put back on the pitch and surrounding areas. Currently, England is leading the series 2-1, aiming for their first five-match series victory since 2018 when they triumphed over India 4-1. Ollie Pope will captain the team in the absence of Ben Stokes, who is sidelined with a right shoulder injury.

With Stokes out, Jacob Bethell joins the playing eleven. The fast bowling trio of Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, and Josh Tongue have also been included, replacing pacers Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse, alongside left-arm spin all-rounder Liam Dawson. After winning the toss, Pope decided to bowl first, citing the green pitch, wet conditions, and cloudy skies.

"It was a straightforward decision to bowl first given the conditions," Pope expressed. "We are ahead 2-1, but we are not satisfied with a 2-2 finish; we aim for a 3-1 victory. Although we have lost a few players, including our captain, the team is in good spirits with fresh faces and a long batting order."

For India, Jurel steps in for the injured Rishabh Pant, Nair takes the place of Shardul Thakur, and Krishna replaces Jasprit Bumrah. Skipper Shubman Gill also noted the inclusion of seamer Akash Deep, who comes in for Anshul Kamboj, who debuted in the last match at Old Trafford, Manchester.

"Losing the toss is not a concern as long as we secure the win," Gill commented. "There was some confusion yesterday about the conditions, but the wicket seems promising. We aim to set a substantial score in the first innings. Every match, we come close, and it’s about that extra five or ten percent; the boys are ready to give their all."
