New Delhi, June 17 (NationPress) The International Pickleball Federation and World Pickleball Federation have officially united to create a fully democratic, IOC-compliant global organization, which will be based in Switzerland.
The member countries of the International Pickleball Federation (IPF) and the World Pickleball Federation (WPF) reached a unanimous decision at Special General Meetings (SGMs) on June 14 to merge into a single governing body for the sport.
The newly formed organization will initially function under the name World Pickleball Federation (WPF), operating as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) entity registered in Illinois, USA. It aims to consolidate the assets and resources of both federations into one cohesive structure.
In an effort to align with the global sports community and adhere to the highest governance standards, the new WPF will also be registered in Lausanne, Switzerland—the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The body is dedicated to fulfilling all IOC recognition criteria, which include: 1) Democratic governance and equal voting rights for all member nations, 2) Transparent operations and financial oversight, 3) Gender equity and athlete representation, 4) Compliance with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards, 5) Conflict resolution and disciplinary frameworks, 6) Adherence to the Olympic Charter.
The WPF, founded over six years ago, is well-equipped to commence the IOC recognition process immediately. Unlike other organizations claiming to represent the sport globally, the new WPF stands out due to its commitment to full democracy, transparency, and international legitimacy.
"This unification marks a significant milestone for pickleball on a global scale. By merging our strengths and adhering to the highest international standards, we send a clear signal: pickleball is poised to take its rightful place among the world’s most esteemed sports," stated Arvind Prabhoo, president of the IPF.
"The pickleball community demands a singular International Governing Body for the sport. With 100 member countries and six years of operation, the new unified WPF has fulfilled the initial requirements for IOC membership. We are excited to continue expanding pickleball at the grassroots level globally while pursuing our aspiration to be a fully participating sport in an upcoming Olympic Games," added Seymour Rifkind, president of the WPF.
As part of its establishment process, the new WPF is seeking nominations for Directors to create its inaugural Board. These Directors will be elected by member countries at the first Annual General Meeting (AGM) in August 2025, ensuring that governance reflects the sport’s diversity, inclusivity, and global scope.
