New Delhi, May 21 (NationPress) The unfortunate series of events for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 continued as MS Dhoni faced a decisive six-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.
Despite posting a score of 187/8 and maintaining a run-rate exceeding ten for most of the match, skipper MS Dhoni expressed disappointment over the team’s loss of one to two additional wickets that ultimately cost them. “When you consider the runs we scored, it was commendable, but the wickets column is crucial as it adds pressure on the lower-middle order, potentially preventing us from batting through 20 overs,” he stated.
“I must commend Brevis for his impressive innings; he was aggressive in his approach, and while our run-rate was satisfactory, our downfall stemmed from losing those extra wickets,” Dhoni mentioned during the post-match presentation.
Though Brevis and Ayush Mhatre scored 42 and 43 runs respectively, showcasing some electrifying stroke-play, CSK suffered crucial losses in clusters. Devon Conway and Urvil Patel fell victim to Yudhvir Singh Charak in a single power-play over, while Akash Madhwal restricted the flow of runs towards the end, leading to the dismissals of Dhoni and Shivam Dube in the final over.
“Consistency is key, which is challenging when aiming for a 200 strike-rate. Batters must have confidence in their abilities. It’s vital for young players to maintain the same performance level as in their debut season to foster their growth as batsmen,” Dhoni added.
Pacer Anshul Kamboj recorded impressive figures of 1-21, managing to stifle the RR openers for a period. Dhoni praised Kamboj, who has also been selected for the India ‘A’ squad for the upcoming tour of England, for taking on responsibility from the start.
“He (Kamboj) might not swing the ball much, but he achieves seam movement; his delivery can be more potent than the speed gun indicates. He has taken on the responsibility and is capable of executing quality yorkers,” Dhoni noted.
“The powerplay is an area that needs improvement; we must minimize runs conceded in the first six overs. Kamboj bowled three overs during the powerplay, a challenging task when the ball isn’t moving and batsmen are settled,” he concluded.
