New Delhi, May 9 (NationPress) Following the immediate suspension of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), all ten franchises are now looking for guidance on how to begin sending both Indian and foreign players, along with support staff and other crew members, back to their homes. This will happen after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) briefing on Friday evening.
“Indeed, IPL franchises have been notified about the indefinite suspension of IPL 2025 with immediate effect by the BCCI. The franchises, currently at their respective bases, will remain on standby for the next three to four hours,” said sources.
“The franchises are eagerly awaiting additional instructions following the MEA briefing on Friday evening regarding the logistics of sending players and support staff back home,” they added.
The decision to suspend IPL 2025 indefinitely was taken due to escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly after recent air and drone strikes from Pakistan that caused power outages in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur on Thursday evening—all of which are near Dharamshala. Consequently, the game between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was halted at the HPCA Stadium just after the first innings began.
With airports in Dharamshala and other northern Indian cities closed, players, support staff from both PBKS and DC, as well as match officials, commentators, and broadcast team members, have been evacuated from Dharamshala via a special train organized by the tournament, expected to arrive in New Delhi.
Reports indicate that the Australian contingent within the IPL, including players and support staff, might be departing India as early as Saturday morning. This comes after both Cricket Australia (CA) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) expressed concerns regarding the safety and welfare of their players.
